Cotter compounds

The cottor compounds used for anchoring the rotating machine elements on shafts and axles, but also to transmit torque from the shaft to the hub and vice versa. Coupling is done through cotters inserted in the appropriate channels shaft and hub. These are removable compounds. The shaft is removed from the hub without damaging some of the elements. The cotter compounds fall into two main groups: not tense and stained. Stained not to apply conpounds obtained by the prism through spline segment.

- The prism cotters are three types : rounded corners, with flat edges and one rounded and one flat end.

The dimensions of the intersection of the prism cotters b and h and channel them to the shaft and hub are standardized in BDS. Are chosen depending on the diameter of the shaft.

Strained compounds to relate these with bolts and cylindrical cotters. These compounds are carried out with use of force.

Wedge cotter pins are: cut, flat and tangential friction. Flat wedge cotter pins require no grooves in the shaft, but only suitable plane. Friction wedge cotter pins require no further processing of the shaft, but loosening of the connection does not transmit torque. Tangential wedge cotter pins are used to connect a large, heavy machine elements under dynamic loading.

Cylindrical cotter pins are placed in holes along the length of the shaft. Half of the diameter of the hole is in the shaft and the other half - in  the hub. Used only when the hub is located at the end of the shaft and are mounted by press fit. The diameter of the cotter stick is selected depending on the diameter of the shaft d, and its length - depending on the chosen diameter.
